Most Popular House Pet
Cats without any doubt are the most popular house pets, exceeding the number of dogs in USA, UK and most European countries. In USA, 37% of homes have at least one cat, in Uk 25% and in Australia 26%. A total of 500 million pet cats exist in the world. There are 60 million pet cats in USA, around 7 million in the UK and around 5 million in Canada. There are many other countries such as Russia, New Zealand, Brazil, Japan, India, South Africa and other European countries where pet cats are found in abundance.

Smallest Cat
Mr. Peebles is the certified smallest cat by Guinness, living in Pekin, Illinois. He is a fully grown domestic short haired cat and is only 6.1 inches tall! It has a body length of 19.2 inches and weighs a meagre 3 pounds. His size is attributed to some genetic defect.

Owned by Hema Chandras, this genius of a cat has learnt to say yes and no to questions asked via nodding. According to the owner, the cat understands a total of 8 languages including Guajarati, Persian, Malayalam, English, Arabic and French. Puss was born in 1903 and died on 29th November 1939, living good 36 years! It was owned by Mrs. T. Holway and lived in Devon.

The oldest cat in reliable, recorded history by some was a 34 year old Tabby named Ma. She was owned by Alice St. George Moore of Drewsteignton. England. Another 34 year old cat, Granpa, was a sphinx and lived in Texas. It was adopted from the Humane Society.

Lorna has kept the 98 lb Snowbie and Booboo, his sister, ever since they were kittens. She got Snowbie neutered and his growth increased, reaching 33 cm (13 inches) tall at this time. His tail only is a whooping 31 cm long! He loves a lavish life and Lorna pampers him completely. He gets an already warmed bed at night. He wakes up to a can of his favourite tuna fish with the second course consisting of smoked ham or flaked turkey. His favourite morning drinks are coffee and low-fat, long life cream and enjoys a good serving of rice pudding at night.

Fattest Cat
Himmey, a neutered male Tabby, is the proud owner of the title of the fattest cat by weighing 46 pounds 15.5 ounces (21.3 kg)! He was owned by Thomas Vyse of Redlynch, Queensland, Australia. He was 38 inches long with a girth of 33 inches and a 15 inch neck! He died of a respiratory disease on 12th March, 1986 at the age of 10.

Snowbie, who has alreasy been mentioned previously in this article under the “Longest Cat” is supposedly 44 kg.
