A New Love is Born ...

It's funny what a baby, any baby can do to a woman.  I have always thought of it being natural for people to have pets.  However, it seems I was wrong.

The Truth About Dry Cat Food

People sometimes ask me if I can recommend a good dry cat food, but I cannot. Dry food — kibble — is the worst possible food you can feed to your cat. It is a moneymaking venture of pet food manufacturers that is leading to horrible chronic disease in cats. It is marketed as a product that is 100 percent nutritionally complete for all stages of your cat's life. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Homeopathy for Cats

Homeopathy is a wonderful healing art that was discovered by Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) in the late 1700s while he was working as a translator. Hahnemann was a medical doctor and a chemist. Disenchanted by medicine at the time, he stopped practicing medicine and was translating medical texts to support himself and his family. While translating a book by a physiologist named William Cullen, Hahnemann disputed the author's explanation of how Peruvian bark (cinchona) cured malaria. He did something that was unheard of in his time — he took several doses of Peruvian bark that caused him to develop fever, chills and other symptoms similar to malaria.

Information on Feline Vaccination Dangers and Concerns

Except for what's required by law (rabies), most of my cats are not vaccinated. I haven't vaccinated a cat in over ten years. Now that I'm living in the country, my cats even spend some time outdoors and still that does not compel me to vaccinate them. You may wonder why I am not afraid of horrible diseases my cats may catch because they are not vaccinated. I'm more afraid of the potential of chronic disease caused by vaccines than I am of the diseases the vaccines are supposed to prevent. Except for the panleukopenia vaccine, I am not convinced vaccinations provide any protection at all.

Parasitic Worms in Cats

About Parasitic Worms: Part of a Cat's Life
Internal parasites (worms) are a very common problem among cats. Almost all kittens get the infection immediately after birth, through their mother’s milk (roundworm, hookworm). Moreover, cats of all ages are continuously exposed to parasites through soil contaminated by infective worm eggs or larvae in the backyard and parks or through hunting of intermediate hosts like mice and other small rodents. In some areas, cats are also at risk of being infected by heartworm which is transmitted through mosquito bites. Though some of these parasites are dangerous, they can be easily controlled and disease from the most common can be prevented.

Cat Flea Life Cycle, Threats, Diagnosis, Treatments

Flea

There are over 2000 species of flea in the world. Thankfully, only the cat flea and the dog flea (Ctenocephalides felis, Ctenocephalides canis) are important to dogs and cats. Despite the name, cat fleas infest dogs just as much as they infest cats.

The problem is that fleas breed in stupendous numbers. Female fleas can lay from 20 to 50 eggs a day and up to 2000 eggs during their lifetime, which immediately fall off the animal, all around your home.

Healthy Cat Kidneys

What Healthy Feline Kidneys Do
The kidneys are essentially a filtration system for the body, not unlike those used to keep a swimming pool clean. But where a pool filter removes leaves and algae from water, the kidneys remove toxic waste products (such as urea and creatinine) which accumulate in the blood of mammals as their food is converted into energy.
However, the kidneys are not just simple filters. They're highly complex organs which also regulate blood composition and pressure.
Most notably, they control the amount of electrolytes in the blood (potassium, magnesium and calcium, which regulate heart contractions; sodium, which regulates the amount of water in the blood; phosphorous, a constituent of bones and teeth).
The kidneys also produce a substance called erythropoietin (which stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells).
Finally, they produce an enzyme called renin, which maintains and controls blood pressure.
